Digital Printing

Make a bigger impact in a lower run, with consistent colour comparable to offset and quick turnaround times.

See litho quality from a digital press

Our digital press equipment can output a single sheet, just like your office printer—but the similarity ends there. Able to print on a very wide variety of substrates and to a sheet size of up to 13” x 40”, our digital press has very sophisticated finishing options like digital spot gloss, metallic ink options, and spot white. This enables us to produce some very high-end special print effects at digital press prices—there is very little setup required. We can also print in full colour with variable data—meaning every sheet can be different. This is ideal in direct mail applications.

The real benefit is in the quality of its output.

The digital press sheet is near indistinguishable from a litho sheet, and that means we can produce your project on the press that is most cost effective and not be concerned about any perceptible difference in quality or colour. This is ideal for reprints or split runs, and it means your job will be run on the equipment that is the most cost effective on a per unit basis, with no compromise.

Digital printing refers to methods of printing from a digital-based image directly to a variety of media. By directly translating your digital-based image onto a wide range of media, we eliminate the need for traditional plates. This means your file can be transformed into a remarkable print with minimal setup time. With digital printing, we save you valuable time and deliver outstanding results, tailored to your exact specifications.

FAQ

What is the difference between digital and offset printing?

Digital printing is suitable for short print runs and offers quick turnaround times with minimal setup costs. It's ideal for projects requiring variable data or personalization. Offset printing, on the other hand, is more cost-effective for large print runs and provides superior color accuracy and consistency. It involves transferring ink from a plate to a rubber blanket and then onto the printing surface.

What paper should I use for my project?

The choice of paper depends on factors such as the purpose of the project, the look you want to achieve, and any practical considerations. You'll want to consider things like thickness, finish, and overall feel to ensure the paper matches your vision. Different projects may call for different types of paper, so it’s best to select the one that aligns with your specific goals.

How is the quality of digital printing?

The quality of digital printing is influenced by several factors, such as the equipment used and the type of materials chosen. Generally, digital printing produces sharp, vibrant results that are suitable for a wide range of projects. It can handle intricate details, offers good colour reproduction, and allows for the inclusion of special finishings, such as gloss, matte, or textured coatings, as well as options like embossing and foil stamping. These enhancements can elevate the overall look and feel of the final product, adding a unique touch to your project.

Are special finishings possible in digital printing?

Yes, special finishings can often be applied to digital printing projects. These include options such as gloss or matte coatings, embossing, foil stamping, and even spot treatments that enhance specific areas of the print. Availability may vary depending on the printing technology and materials used, so it’s worth exploring what finishings will best complement your project.

What file formats are accepted for print production?

Most commercial printers accept high-resolution PDF files for print production. Ensure that your PDF is set to CMYK colour mode and includes all necessary bleed and trim marks. Other acceptable file formats may include Adobe Illustrator (.ai) or Adobe InDesign (.indd) files with outlined fonts and embedded images.

What is bleed, and why is it important?

Bleed refers to the area beyond the trim edge of a printed page where the design extends. It ensures that there are no white borders or unprinted edges after trimming. Proper bleed prevents any unwanted white lines or gaps along the edges of your printed piece. Typically, printers require a bleed of 1/8 inch (0.125 inches) beyond the trim edge.
